Introducing Aurata - New 4G LTE / NB-IoT SMD Embedded Antenna

Antennas

Embedded and Internal Antennas for Reliable Wireless Connectivity

Reliable wireless performance depends not only on selecting the right antenna, but also on how that antenna is integrated into the finished device. Frequency coverage, PCB dimensions, available space, antenna position, ground plane requirements, enclosure materials and surrounding components can all influence RF performance depending on the antenna design. Antenova develops compact embedded and internal antenna solutions for connected devices, combining antenna technology with extensive RF integration expertise to help engineers achieve reliable wireless connectivity while meeting demanding product constraints.

Find the right antenna for your wireless technology

Different wireless technologies require different frequency coverage, bandwidth and antenna performance characteristics. Antenova provides antenna solutions across major cellular, satellite positioning and short-range wireless technologies, including 5G antennas, 4G LTE / NB-IoT antennas, 3G antennas, GNSS antennas, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® antennas and 433 / 868 / 915 MHz ISM and LPWA antennas.

For applications requiring precise short-range positioning and ranging, Antenova also offers UWB antennas. This technology coverage supports connected products ranging from cellular IoT and asset tracking to positioning, industrial monitoring, smart metering, healthcare and consumer electronics.

Choose between embedded and internal antenna solutions

The mechanical architecture of a device has a major influence on antenna selection. Antenova offers both Embedded Antennas and Internal Antennas, providing different approaches to integrating wireless connectivity within compact products.

Embedded SMD antennas are mounted directly onto the host PCB and become part of the electronic assembly. Their compact form factor makes them particularly suitable for high-volume connected devices where PCB space and product dimensions are tightly controlled.

Internal PCB antennas use a separate antenna structure that can be positioned within the device and connected to the host electronics. This includes flexible PCB antennas that can conform to suitable surfaces and rigid PCB solutions that maintain a defined antenna geometry.

The right architecture depends on the available PCB and enclosure space, device construction, production requirements and RF environment of the finished product.

Select the right antenna construction for your device

Antenova provides several antenna technologies to address different mechanical and RF integration requirements. Self-Adhesive Flexible PCB antennas provide a thin and adaptable solution for positioning the antenna within the enclosure, while Self-Adhesive Rigid PCB antennas offer a defined antenna structure for specialised integration requirements.

For direct PCB mounting, SMD Surface Mount Ceramic antennas and SMD Surface Mount Laminate antennas provide compact embedded solutions compatible with surface mount assembly.

Each architecture offers different mechanical and integration characteristics, allowing antenna selection to be matched to the available space, PCB design and overall device construction.

What should you consider when selecting and integrating an antenna?

Selecting an antenna involves more than identifying the required frequency band. Antenna efficiency, radiation characteristics, PCB dimensions, ground plane requirements, antenna clearance, surrounding components and enclosure materials can all influence RF performance depending on the selected antenna technology.

For SMD embedded antennas, the host PCB becomes an important part of the antenna system. Ground plane dimensions, antenna position, keep-out areas and matching should therefore be considered early in the PCB design. Changes to the enclosure or nearby components can also affect antenna tuning and performance.

For cabled internal antennas, engineers gain greater freedom to position the antenna away from the main PCB, but antenna orientation, mounting surface, cable routing and surrounding materials remain important integration considerations.

Considering these factors early in product development gives engineers greater opportunity to optimise antenna performance before the PCB and mechanical architecture become fixed.

Antenna integration and RF optimisation

Even a high-performance antenna can deliver poor results if it is incorrectly integrated into the host device. Antenna performance should therefore be evaluated as part of the complete RF system rather than as an isolated component.

Antenova supports customers with antenna selection, placement, matching and RF optimisation to help identify potential integration issues during development. This engineering-led approach can reduce the risk of late PCB or enclosure redesigns, improve wireless performance and help accelerate the path from initial design to a production-ready connected device.

Antennas for connected applications

Antenova antenna solutions are designed for compact connected products across industrial IoT, asset tracking, smart metering, healthcare, transportation, smart infrastructure, gateways, monitoring equipment, wearables and consumer electronics.

As devices increasingly combine cellular, GNSS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, LPWA, UWB and other wireless technologies, careful antenna selection and integration become increasingly important for maintaining reliable connectivity within limited product dimensions.

Why choose Antenova?

Antenova combines compact antenna technology with extensive RF integration expertise. Our portfolio includes embedded SMD and internal PCB antennas covering major wireless technologies, supported by engineering expertise that helps customers optimise antenna performance within the complete device.

From initial antenna selection and placement through matching and RF optimisation, Antenova helps engineers reduce integration risk, overcome space and performance constraints and develop reliable wireless products with greater confidence.
